Last night while my mom was watching the Olympics the announcer on TV said something that really upset my mom. He said, "The Canadians are out to win gold so that we don't have to hear 'The Star Spangled Banner' being played, and we can hear 'O Canada' instead.
What's with that remark? Each person in every country is out to do his/her best and for that announcer to make such a comment, I thought was really tacky. Canada has had its share of gold medalists in the past, just as the US and other countries have.
Give each sports participant his/her fair shake. And what was the idea that no other country could practice on the Olympic sites other than Canadians prior to the Olympics? That doesn't seem fair. Tacky, tacky, tacky.

I'm sure the athletes are not competing for the sound of the anthem. That might be a nice touch, but they can hear their anthem anytime. And for the announcer to try and pit Canadians against Americans, in general, is tacky. We are good neighbors.
